PART II SYSTEMS ASSESSMENT (General Operations) |
INFRASTRUCTURE: ENERGY MANAGEMENT |
System Indicators: |
Objective 1: Implement Presidential initiatives to protect the environment by increasing the efficiency of Federal buildings. Measure 1.1: Ames demonstrates increased efficiency of Federal buildings through the implementation of Presidential Initiatives. Expectation 1.1: AMES determines whether the Federal office buildings occupied by M&O contractor employees, qualify for the EPA Energy Star Building Label, and applies to EPA for buildings that qualify. 2. AMES incorporates "sustainable design" guidelines issued by DOE into the design and construction process for new buildings. 3. AMES puts processes in place to replace incandescent lamps with compact fluorescent lamps, when this is the most cost-effective strategy. Note 1: The benchmarking tool for determining whether an office building will qualify for an EPA Energy Star Label is accessible via the internet at Note 2: Office buildings defined in the FIMS data base greater than 10,000 GSF and having metered data for at least electrical consumption are candidates for expectation2. Note 3: Sustainable design guidelines should be issued by DOE in FY 1999, no expectation will exist if these guidelines are not issued before the third quarter of FY 2000. Objective 2: Energy Management initiatives are managed consistent with a comprehensive energy management plan that includes the minimum requirements of DOE O 430.2. Measure 2.1: Energy requirements accomplished/requirements scheduled to be accomplished during the fiscal year in accordance with the plan. |

Compliance Items: |
None. |
Self Assessment Scope: |
Report on opportunities for improvement identified in the prior years assessment, if any. Address any significant changes in system procedures or practices, including reason(s) for change and expected improvements. |
Report: |
Mid-Year Status Report due by July 15, 2000. This report should discuss critical items, significant changes, and the status of the self-assessment effort to date. Year-End Final Report due 45 days after calendar year. |
DOE Operational Awareness: |
DOE interaction on an as need basis to include the following: Periodic meetings and communication between the Ames Group and Laboratory management staff. Review the year-end self assessment report and determine the need for an on-site validation. |
