Affirmative Procurement: Objective: Implement and maintain a program to promote efficient use of natural resources through purchase of recycled content products. Measure: Establish full compliance with Executive Order 13101, 9/14/98, "Greening the Government through Waste Prevention, Recycling, and Federal Acquisition. Expectation: Ames Laboratory will purchase EPA-designated items to the maximum extent practicable. This expectation will be calculated as follows:

Report on opportunities for improvement identified in the prior years assessment, if any. Address any significant changes in system procedures or practices, including reason(s) for change and expected improvements. Review waste generation types and rates, including any mitigating factors. Review results of Ames Laboratory Assessments relating to waste management. Review effectiveness of Pollution Prevention/Waste Minimization Program. Review annual Affirmative Procurement Report to DOE. Identify any opportunities for improvement and/or notable practices. |

Mid-Year Status Report due by July 15, 2000. This report should discuss critical items, significant changes, and the status of the self assessment effort to date. Year End Final Report due 45 days after calendar year. |

DOE Operational Awareness: |

DOE interaction on an as appropriate basis. DOE participation in walk-throughs and self-assessments. Assess waste disposal and annual affirmative procurement and pollution prevention reports. Assess year-end Self-Assessment Report and determine need for on-site validation. |
